This growing up...this learning to stretch into an adult while remaining a child without tearing the skin at the seams. Starlight and moonlight, and monsters under your bed that creep into the more tangible corners and spaces inside your head when you become too big to go trick-or-treating. These days, children do Halloween more for candy than for the simple joy of being someone other than themselves, if only for one night.

Perhaps children today are much wiser than we give them credit for.
